Local Law Enforcement and Child Protective Services
For crimes occurring locally, threats, physical danger, known suspects in your area, or urgent safety concerns, contact your local police department or sheriff’s office. If you believe a child is being abused, neglected, exploited, trafficked, or endangered by a parent, guardian, caregiver, household member, or known adult, contact your state child abuse reporting hotline or child protective services agency.
What Not to Do
- Do not contact or confront the suspected offender.
- Do not impersonate a minor.
- Do not bait, solicit, or continue conversations with a suspected offender.
- Do not arrange meetings.
- Do not post accusations online.
- Do not download, copy, save, forward, or share illegal material.
- Do not destroy evidence.
- Do not delay urgent reporting.
Basic Evidence Preservation Guidance
Where lawful and safe, preserve usernames, profile URLs, phone numbers, email addresses, dates, times, and platform names. Take screenshots of non-explicit messages, account pages, threats, payment demands, and identifying information. Do not alter files or metadata. Do not continue communicating with a suspected offender. Follow instructions from law enforcement, NCMEC, or the platform.
